I believe that classrooms today are DEEP into the technology revolution. We have passed the horizon and are hundreds of miles into the journey of technology in the classroom. Technology started as an outside of the classroom experience. Once teachers started realizing how much students actually interact with technology in their own lives, they/we brought it into the classroom. What better way to keep students interested than to bring what they do in their social lives and make it relevant in the classroom? From watching the video, there are obviously opposing sides to the use of technology in the classroom. From one side, teachers need to be aware of the amount of technology usage and be flexible with our expectations. On the other, teachers are still holding on to the “old school” way of teaching and put technology on the back burner. What we have to admit though, is that incorporating technology into the classroom is a MUST. The question is, how much? As soon as students walk out the door to the school and get on the bus or even wait to get home, phones come out, computers are turned on, anything electronic that can be used to interact with the social media/social networking world is accessed immediately. It is almost like an addiction. In my eyes, it is inevitable, so why not try to find a way to make the use of technology in the classroom relevant to the outside world for our students, and vice versa?

  1. I totally agree with you. There is no sense in trying to stop technology from coming into the classroom because it's going to happen. Sure I wasn't allowed to use my phone during class in high school, but 15 year old me wasn't going to listen! We need to be truly embracing technology and figuring out a way to use the technology kids are using for social interaction and incorporate it for learning.
